Screening Liberally has invited us to discuss our documentary, Doctors and Detainees, at Netroots Nation the annual convention for Progressive newsmakers on Friday, August 14th, 5pm in Room 406. We'll show a clip of our work-in-progress and get feedback from the audience.

Netroots Nation amplifies progressive voices by providing an online and in-person campus for exchanging ideas and learning how to be more effective in using technology to influence the public debate. Within that campus, we strengthen community, inspire action and serve as an incubator for progressive ideas that challenge the status quo and ultimately affect change in the public sphere

Dr. Davis and Julie Gribble were also invited to discuss the film on Virtually Speaking, a talk show in Second Life, on July 9.

"Doctors and Detainees" - A Feature Length Documentary in Development

Since 9/11, doctors have contributed to the torture and abuse of detainees through their collaboration with interrogators at Guantanamo, Abu Ghraib and CIA black sites. Are “interrogation doctors” at the forefront of disturbing new roles for psychologists, psychiatrists and physicians in national security intelligence?

I've been working really long hours to get this project moving forward and it's good to finally see progress. The website is up (created using an older version of iWeb flogged into submission) and we've been granted fiscal sponsorship by Arts Engine, Inc., which is a big deal because with their sponsorship all donations towards the completion of the film are now tax deductible.
And to keep up with the times, we can now be joined and tweeted on facebook and Twitter.

Now I'm off to work on getting those donations....

For the Good Pitch @ Hot Docs, we are looking for international projects with a distinctive human rights focus, which transform stories of abuse and injustice into compelling documentary films. We will also want to see that you have given some thought to what you want to achieve with your film through an associated outreach campaign. Your campaign can take any form, whether seeking to promote public engagement and/or policy change, or engaging with the issues raised in new and interesting ways.

The Good Pitch will be making its final stop at IFP’s Independent Film Week, in New York City, September 24, 2009.

Here's your chance to hear two BlueCat winning screenplays performed LIVE at the "Rochester High Falls International Film Festival"

For the 4th year in a row, SCREENPLAY LIVE returns to the High Falls Film Festival with a live staged reading of two winning screenplays of the BlueCat Screenplay Competition, Loved Ones by Vicki Speegle and The Stones by Ana Lily Amirpour. Utilizing local Rochester actors, SCREENPLAY LIVE celebrates the beginning of every great movie: the screenplay.

BlueCat was founded by Fairport native Gordy Hoffman. Winner of the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at the Sundance Film Festival, Hoffman is the founder of the BlueCat Screenplay Competition. His directorial debut, A Coat of Snow, won the Domani Vision Award at VisionFest, held at Tribeca Cinemas.

Pitch:
A couture loving hitman dreams of becoming a clothing designer, but soon he must choose between his life of crime and his passion for fashion.

Synopsis:
Adrian is in the midst of a career crisis. He’s always been good at his job, a top-notch hired assassin, but he secretly longs for a career as a fashion designer.

He supports his family’s lavish lifestyle by doing whatever assignments are sent his way but between hits he creates fabulously flamboyant neckties, which also happen to come in handy at work.

When a contract is put out to kill his personal hero, fashion designer William Armichi, a formidable client forces Adrian to take the well paying job. But after seeing William’s brilliant new fall line, he can't bring himself to kill such an artist.

Now the client wants them both dead. Adrian risks everything to rescue William. While on the run with his family, he and William decide to turn the tables on the client and surprisingly, when executing their plan, they receive the unexpected help of Adrian’s family.
